Congress has recognized water contamination issues at Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River, North Carolina and has set aside funds to address claims made by Veterans, Reservists, and National Guard members and their family members who served or lived at Camp Lejeune or MCAS New River, North Carolina, for at least 30 days total between August 1, 1953, and December 31, 1987.

Although AFFF is effective at fighting fires, this substance is also highly toxic. AFFF contains per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are known to cause kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, testicular cancer, bladder cancer, liver cancer, and prostate cancer.
